FREE THE BEARS INDIA DISCOVERY JOURNEY
Few places in the world enthral travellers like India. This fantastic
journey, escorted by
Free the Bears Fund's representatives, visits some of the icons that India is
famous for while at the same time focusing on the diverse array of wildlife
found on the sub continent.
This journey starts in the hustle and bustle of India's capitol, Delhi and then
heads to the capitol of Rajasthan, Jaipur, also known as the Pink city. From
Jaipur we travel to the important pilgrimage town of Pushkar. Set on the Pushkar
Lake this is a lovely and relaxed city with striking temples and bathing Ghats
filled with traditional Sadhu's.
We then travel to Bundi in our private vehicle to visit the incredible Havalis
found in this region. Our journey now focuses on the animals of India as we
drive to the Ranthambhore Wildlife Sanctuary where we embark on game drives into
the jungle surrounds in search of Jackal, Leopard, Tiger and Sloth Bear in their
natural habitat. We spend two days at the Park before driving to our base for
the next 3-days, Agra.
Here we visit the greatest monument to love, the stunning Taj Mahal, before
spending three days at the AGRA Bear Rescue Sanctuary getting "up close and
personal" with the Bears as we have a very exclusive opportunity to help out
with the day to day running of the Sanctuary. The 3-days spent here is an
absolute highlight for animal and Bear lovers as we get to witness the day to
day life of Bears in the sanctuary as well as being able to directly contribute
to the well being of the Bears. We then head to Delhi for a sightseeing tour and
last minute shopping.
This is a great opportunity to travel on the adventure of a lifetime, to get up
close and personal with the Bears where you can make a difference.

WORLD EXPEDITIONS AND FREE THE BEARS
Free the Bears Fund Inc and World Expeditions started working closely together
in October 2004 and organised their inaugural fundraising journey to Cambodia
and Laos, which departed in March 2005. A further two trips have travelled to
Cambodia and Laos helping raise $42,000 for the Fund to directly help the Bears.
These funds have been used to build the “World Expeditions” veterinary clinic in
the grounds of the Phnom Tamao Zoological Gardens and Wildlife Rescue Centre.
We would like to thank all the people that travelled on our Free the Bears
journeys and hope that many other people can also enjoy this amazing adventure
of a lifetime!
Some feedback from our previous journeys:
“What can I say except it was the most memorable trip with such
wonderful company – all like minded, caring supporters who just loved the
bears and the whole tour” – MARY HUTTON
“I am sure I speak for everyone in the group in firmly recommending
similar future trips to any supporters who can make it. The chance to get up
close and personal and cuddly with the Bears is one not to be missed” –
HOWARD WHEATLEY
“You will remember the great local tour guides on this fabulous tour
and you will never forget all your travelling companions who were other bear
lovers. You will never forget your Free the Bears Fund tour to Laos and
Cambodia” – TOM BOYLE
“Thanks again World Expeditions for a wonderful holiday, it was a life
changing experience. One that I'll never forget and to be able to see where
our money is going in the sanctuaries, the vet clinic and to see the bears
looking so well, was truly sensational” - ROBBIE STUART
“I just wanted to let you (World Expeditions) know that the Free The
Bears trip to Laos and Cambodia, which I have just returned from was
wonderful. We had lots of time and opportunity to get up close and personal
with the bears, especially the adorable bear cubs in the Cambodian office of
FTB. We had a really great bunch of people who went on the trip - all animal
lovers obviously.” – LYNETTE CHEVERALL

MARY HUTTON
Since registering Free the Bears Fund is 1995 Mary Hutton has personally
organized all the necessary equipment to be sent to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos
from Western Australia to build sanctuaries and retreats for rescued bears in
S.E. Asia whilst liaising with governments of these countries to establish good
working relationships. Mary is extremely passionate and knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the
bears and is excited at the prospect of sharing her enthusiasm and experience
with members of this journey. Mary has tirelessly organised the relocation of
three Sun Bears to Taronga Zoo and three Sun Bears to Perth Zoo, all saved from
the restaurant trade in Cambodia. Keeping a hands-on approach to the fund is very important and Mary has
travelled to the countries where sanctuaries have been built to ensure they are
being run on a high standard and the bears are cared for in the most
professional way. Since 1995 Mary has worked for the fund on a completely
voluntary basis.
HELEN CRACKNELL
Helen has been working closely with Mary and Free The Bears Fund for the last
two years. Since the early 1980’s Helen has been closely involved in animal
welfare in both England and Australia mainly in the field of campaigning and
raising awareness in the general public.
She feels very strongly about Free The Bears Fund and the work she does for
this very worthwhile organization as it not only helps to save these beautiful
bears from terrible cruelty but also actively seeks to change the circumstances
that lead to such brutality. Helen has a degree in philosophy and politics and
is a devoted animal lover.
