Shoelace
Named for his stringy appearance and a peculiar love of the office shoe rack—particularly the laces of our CEO Matt Hunt’s boots and trainers as a tiny cub, Shoelace was quick to assert his very confident personality and winning charm.
He is by far the cheekiest little rascal we’ve had the pleasure of caring for!
After gaining strength and weight at our Phnom Penh office (following his confiscation from a hunter in a village just outside Battambang, Cambodia) Shoelace was relocated to the Phnom Tamao Sanctuary and the purpose build cub-enclosure.
Although, it would be nearer the truth to say that he had to be evicted for domestic terrorism!
Shoelace has been growing fast and now weighs nearly 100kg. He is still extremely playful and can often be seen wrestling with Yang (the female bear he is housed with) and running around his enclosure.
Soon Yang and Shoelace will be re-housed so that Yang can join the adult female group and Shoelace can stay with two younger bears Rove and Tasma.
Shoelace loves to play in the water splashing about as if he is trying to beat it up or create his own whirlpool. Then, exhausted, he rests with Yang on their tower platform.
Watching Shoelace eat is as though he hasn't seen food in a week, he attacks it with gusto and his rice porridge breakfast never lasts for long. His favourite foods are watermelon and banana.
